That was the starting point for this project developed for the Lisbon Marriott Hotel.
The employee changing rooms were, at first glance, simply a functional space. But they also represented a clear opportunity to make visible an internal culture built around care, inclusion, and respect. SHIFT's proposal was developed from this perspective: reinforcing the brand’s values, extending the employer branding experience, and giving physical expression to the internal Take Care programme. The challenge was not to decorate a secondary space. It was to transform it into a tangible demonstration of care for people.
The risk in projects like these is well known: improving the environment without truly improving the experience. Making the space look better, but not making it more relevant.
Here, the objective was the opposite.
To create an intervention capable of reinforcing identity, dignity, and belonging without compromising functionality. And to demonstrate, in a simple and authentic way, that employee wellbeing is also built through the everyday spaces people use.
SHIFT developed the concept “Together We Care”designed to transform the space into a direct extension of the culture of the Marriott International. More than a tagline, the concept became the guiding principle for the intervention, connecting care, commitment, and team spirit to a tangible everyday experience.
The proposal combined messaging, colour, illustration, and environmental design to create a warmer, more human, and more distinctive visual language. Rather than treating the changing rooms as an invisible operational area, the intervention gave them presence, identity, and coherence with the wider brand universe.
Illustrated murals, environmental graphics, inspirational messaging, colour-coded entrances, and carefully selected materials were used to create a stronger sense of recognition, belonging, and place.
The result was a transformation with a tangible impact on the employee experience, turning a purely functional area into a more welcoming, dignified, and brand-aligned environment.
